Compiled by Marion Traer Downs, one of our volunteers, this book contains the 1885 Census of Choctaw and Chickasaw Freedman living in the Choctaw Nation. It lists each District the Freedman registration, their family and children, mostly born free, the Indian that was their slave owner, also their wife’s, slave owner if different. How many acres farmed if they had cattle horses, sheep & goats. It then goes into all three Districts doubtful registrations, and those that chose to leave the Nation for pay.
